Mount Carmel
History of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Festival
According to the traditions of the Carmelite order, on July 16, 1215, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to St. Simon Stock, a Carmelite. During the vision, she revealed to him the scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, popularly known as the "Brown Scapular." A century and a quarter later, the Carmelite order began to celebrate on this date the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
It has been called the 'crown jewel' of the community.
Hundreds of community residents, along with community leaders, dignitaries, and out-of-town visitors showed their support by attending the Mt. Carmel Festival which was held on the weekend of July 16-17, 2011.
There was musical entertainment and food vendors. A parade of floats, marching bands, and classic cars strolled down the main street of Trinidad. Building tours were also given to all who were interested.

The Mt. Carmel Health, Wellness, and Community Center is still a work in progress. It is scheduled for completion in 2013, but planners are expecting an opening of Phase I in the near future. Phast II and III are scheduled for completion over the next two years.
